I do this frequently and with a fairly large group of Vets. I have a problem with it being set as stated. I think it should be Service member recognition day, or something like that, I don’t believe it should be tied directly to suicide prevention. It should be in recognition for the continued service of all our members. It should be listed as a day where individual leaders at all levels call a group of folks wishing well and thanking them. These leaders should also get out of their office and share a few words of gratitude and seeing how the Service members are feeling about what they do, and how they are treated.

Most senior leaders do something like this but a day set aside would motivate and encourage the practice. This can be done across the spectrum of service, and while it would be specifically for those currently serving, it could easily bleed over into Veterans.

Anyway.
