Man, Napolean may have been a military genius of the age but he sure didn't mind having men die for his ambition. Wipe out your Army one year and reconstitute it the next. Frenchman sure were a forgiving lot.

I've always been struck by how many great armies could originate in such relatively small places like Germany and France. West Germany was about the size of the State of Alabama. Amazing.
