One 1,000 megawat traditional nuclear produces enough electricity to serve 1,255, 000 people. That nuclear power plant requires 50 acres. 1,000 megawatts of solar power arrays require 4,000 acres. The nuclear plant is reliable base-load electric power production. The solar arrays are not base-load capable and have questionable availability. As our nation's nuclear plants are aging out and coal plants are being shut down, we need reliable base-load replacements. Renewable energy as we know it today is not the answer...natural gas and new-age nucs are today's clean reliable electric energy.

PC2 Larry Sellnow, your are correct, the disposal of radioactive waste is an issue and there are a large number of other renewable energy sources, but you missed the point. None of today's renewables are able to provide reliable baseload electricity cost-effectively. Watch California this summer, rolling brownouts and blackouts may emerge.
