I don't see anyone in the military moving on this anytime soon. I've read a couple news reports stating that we shouldn't be reactionary or that it wouldn't be a good idea because negligent discharges would go up. As bad as this might sound I don't see this getting any traction.

SSgt (Join to see), there are no doubt negligent discharges in the sand box too, but the risks outweigh that problem. With our military personnel being targeted by terrorists here, that risk/benefit ratio needs to be reexamined, IMHO.
Police and game wardens have the same risk of negligent discharges, but that doesn't keep them from being armed. The military in war zones is just as competent at handling firearms as law enforcement is here; there is no reason to believe that the soldiers become stupid when they return stateside.

I completely agree. I think its time we were armed seeing as we are armed forces!
