Say It Ain't So.
The Lake City ammunition factory is one of the largest manufacturers of M855/SS109 ammo which is the most popular caliber for the most targeted firearm in the country: the AR-15. In operation since 1941 to produce ammunition for the U.S. Army, the government contracts with the private firm Winchester to run the enterprise and sell any excess supplies on the open market. The plant also produces XM855 and XM193 ammunition.
This policy denys the sale of excess ammunition of the .223/5.56mm caliber ammunition used by civilian AR15 owners.

We *were* prepared for a long war. Before we gave away our "suplus" supplies which weren't actually surplus.
But, of course, we aren't allowed to criticize aid to Ukraine, no matter what it means for the US. Any such criticism is obviously the work of Russian propaganda, if not a bona fide Russian agent and traitor.

We could have taken due dilligence and evac'd our stock out of Afghanistan andthen left. May be the reason we are so short now is that the former surplus went to re-arming our current forces. And now, we are behind the 8 ball. No extra of most everything. It all went to arm our guys already.

Amn Dale Preisach - Here I thought we were in Afghanistan to get OBL, we did that and we should have been on the way out within a month.

SPC Gary C. Long before that. Once Taliban was out of power, and we confirmed OBL had fled to Pakistan. He was killed in Pakistan - where he had been for years.

SFC Casey O'Mally - Personaly I think that it didn't matter who was in the WH, we wouldn't have stopped till he was dead, it didn't matter where he was living at the time.
