With all due respect to Officer Fanone - and I mean that sincerely, as I truly respect the service and sacrifice he has given over his career - he is just wrong, here.
AR-15s are not weapons of war, and they are not what we send our Soldiers out to kill with.
The 2nd Amendment is not about NEED. The argument that no one NEEDS an AR is both irrelevant and ignorant.
I don't care HOW nominal the fee is, you can't tax a Constitutional right. Imagine if, when you went to vote, the city charged a "nominal ballot printing fee" of $2.
I am sorry Officer Fanone dislikes the idea of citizens that are as armed as he is. But, as he says, "that's the job."

The writer might not be inconvenienced to pay a nominal fee to gift his guns to his kids , but I find that idea ludicrous
