From NOV 2007-NOV 2008, I served as a military advisor. When I told an Iraqi Command Sergeant Major that Americans were divided similar to the Vietnam War, he told me about a major difference. In Vietnam War, it was about America attempting to support a corrupt and unpopular South Vietnamese government against the North. In Iraq, it was about multiple factions who would fight among each other whenever America left.
