This is 100% correct. I spent most of my life in the public safety field(police, fire, EMS). The rewards were much more than monetary. The thought of having something good happen during the shift is what made me stay on the line. That hand shake, hug, or thank you would always offset the bad days by far. Now that I'm retired I find myself offering to help people load their purchases when I am shopping at Lowes or stopping to help someone broken down on the side of the road. I think that is why so many of us have rescue horses and rescue dogs. Caring for them helps me through the bad days because I just know they appreciate me for saving them from a certain death at a kill pen or animal shelter. Thank you for sharing with us Colonel.

I concur, but in politics it is pretty difficult, because those that see what's happening on the left will put down those on the right doing a good deed so-to-speak...thus leading to more depression... Be careful out there folks!

I heartily agree.
Few things get my mind off my own problems (real or imagined) liking helping other people with theirs.
