My next door neighbor landed on Attu, he was a SeaBee. He landed in the 2nd wave to work on the airfield. He later landed on Okinawa in the 3rd wave for the same reason.

Funny thing was when his unit got leave they went to San Fransisco during the Winter. They were all wearing short sleeve shirts and getting strange looks from the locals. He said it felt like it was warm.

Fantastic article there has been a few documentaries on it too, best documentary I did watch was war stories with Col. Oliver North.
