I said the same thing about renaming our schools. A waste of funds that could be better spent

My whole thing on the renaming is this: No one, or not enough people cared or even paid attention to history to know who these bases, er excuse me, posts, were named after. To call them traitors is forgetting the times they lived in, especially considering how strongly states rights and loyalty to your state was. Yes, those states were on the wrong side regarding slavery. Slavery is, and was, a terrible thing.
Now, if this were a plot by Woodrow Wilson to name those posts after confederates because of his social leanings (he was a notorious racist who resegregated the federal government and military) and its provable, then I'm all for renaming them. The reason I name Wilson is because he was president when most of these bases were ceated.
So now we'll spend money that could go to upgrade on-post family housing or to other programs benefitting Soldiers to change the names to newer, more social justice warrior 'acceptable' people. I'm sure at some point the Scientologists will want a naval base named after old L. Ron one day too.
