Ok, so let's follow this path...
1. Illegal immigration is against the law in the US. However, we ignore the crisis at the border, we have ended efforts to create barriers, and we allow illegal immigrants to take advantage of our asylum laws.
2. Border patrol has been understaffed, restricted from doing their job, and even punished for doing their job as they were trained to do. There is a stigma the Democrat leadership is trying to create against these officers and it's total BS.
3. Cities declare sanctuary status, shielding illegal immigrants from getting discovered and/or deported. They make lofty claims that they welcome these people and that they produce no danger or significant use of resources. They order their law enforcement not to work with federal authorities to identify illegal immigrants and allow them to drain our resources and repeatedly commit crimes.
4. In come the Governors of FL and TX, busing these people to those cities and states which have declared sanctuary status. After all, they "want them" to come don't they? They are busing only a fraction of the thousands of people illegally crossing the border and the mayors have the gall to call these governors racist and cruel? Really?
5. Finally, Mayor Lightfoot who clearly called Gov Abbott's actions to bus illegal immigrants to Chicago racist and cruel, turns around and scoops them up and send them to the outskirt suburbs of Chicago, outside her domain of responsibility. So much for sanctuary status in Chicago. A few quotes from the Mayor:
“Our city is prepared. We’re a welcoming city, and what we’ve seen is a tremendous outpouring, not only from city government but also a number of different not-for-profits that are part of our network of care,” - Really, did you work your new busing effort to the suburbs out with those mayors? Why bus them out at all? Isn't that cruel and racist? Do you not like Latinos?
“We know that racism, discrimination, and human cruelty have played a pivotal role in how immigrants are received within our borders, and we are still working to recover from the previous presidential administration, which encouraged this behavior,” - Like him or not, Trump discouraged this behavior and worked to disincentivize coming to the US illegally. That is what our President should be doing along with maintaining control of the border.
“This is such an important moment for Chicago as a city has been a sanctuary for thousands of newcomers. We are welcoming them and we will not turn our backs on those who need our help the most.” - Nah, you'll just bus them to other neighborhoods and hand a problem you're enabling to someone else.
This isn't just hypocrisy on the Mayor's part, it's political incompetence. Demand we fix the border, demand we fix our immigration policies, and stop telling us there isn't a problem at the border when we clearly see that there is.
