Lt Col Charlie Brown So sad that suicide among both active duty and especially Veterans is so high. I have been at points in my life like so many where I felt every one would be better off if I were dead but to commit the act, I couldn't do that to my wife and children. They are the real victims of a suicide having to live with this and wondering if it could be prevented.

This is often forgotten regarding g their families. Veterans usually have e more knowledge regarding the use of firearms. perhaps than the general population.

It's tragic that this happens Lt Col Charlie Brown , I suffer from PTSD, and several TBI's, but I have never thought of suicide ma'am.

SFC David Reid, M.S, PHR, SHRM-CP, DTM - Are you really that naive - or is this just part of a pretense to support your politics? Do you really suppose that people in the military aren't aware of gun safety? Certainly people may not follow all the proper procedures, but what people know and what they do have always been different. Suicides aren't about any failure of "gun safety" -- exactly the opposite, any suicide using a gun is generally a demonstration that the person was fully aware of the hazards.
You want to compare guns with cars. OK, let's do that. Should we than say that you are not allowed to own a car because you have a far greater probability of killing yourself or someone else with a car than with a gun?
Yes, suicides are tragic, but all this feigned concern about guns being used in service member suicides is just an excuse for wanting to restrict access to firearms. The problems with suicides in the military are a reflection of the command climate and the military leadership's inability (or unwillingness) to deal with the underlying issues.
The suicide rate for the military overall is nearly three times the national average, but the military is hardly alone. According to the National Violent Death Reporting System there are several occupations with even higher suicide rates, including:
Farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural managers
Construction managers
Artists and related workers
Musicians, singers, and related workers
Diagnostic related medical technologists and technicians
Emergency medical technicians and paramedics
Bailiffs, correctional officers, and jailers
Chefs and head cooks
First–line supervisors of housekeeping and janitorial workers
First–line supervisors of landscaping, lawn service, and groundskeeping workers
Fishing and hunting workers
First–line supervisors of construction trades and extraction workers
Brickmasons, blockmasons, stonemasons, and reinforcing iron and rebar workers
Carpenters
Carpet, floor, and tile installers and finishers
Construction equipment operators except paving, surfacing, and tamping equipment operators
Electricians
Painters and paperhangers
Roofers
Structural iron and steel workers
Computer, automated teller, and office machine repairers
Automotive body and related repairers
Automotive service technicians and mechanics
Millwrights
Machinists
Welding, soldering, and brazing workers
Laborers and freight, stock, and material movers, hand

Well said MSG Thomas Currie. Even though the Left in America always wants to blame guns (because they want to abolish 2nd A rights along with other American citizens’ freedoms), suicides in the military are really “a reflection of the command climate and the military leadership's inability (or unwillingness) to deal with the underlying issues.” In addition, there’s an extraordinarily heavy burden put upon the today’s military members to be 2.0 politically correct per the Biden Admin’s extreme alternate-culture policies.
