With Biden so weak, Kim might do anything, feeling there would be no retribution... What say you, Dale?

Who is pulling Kim's strings? N. Korea gains nothing by an attack on the U.S.. So the question becomes who stands to gain??? China maybe???

Biden's perceived weakness might be a factor, but the US has been signalling weakness about Korea for years now. First we removed permanently-stationed ground combat forces from Korea, replacing them with a rotational "brigade" then recently we announced that we would no longer use a heavy brigade in Korea. The only advantage to having a Stryker brigade in Korea is that they could outrun the North Koreans going south.

Of course Kim is crazy enough that he might be willing to use a nuke, but why would he? If Kim wants to invade South Korea, there is simply no reason to use a nuke. Seoul is within easy reach and worth more than his entire country. In any invasion, North Korean troops will certainly reach the Han river. It is conceivable Kim might want to nuke Osan Air Base to get rid of those pesky A-10's.

The biggest danger of nukes in Korea would be if we managed to mount a counter-offensive. If US & SK forces were advancing into the north, Kim would have nothing more to lose and would almost certainly resort of using nukes.

Maj Robert Thornton - China might encourage North Korean aggression as a safe (for China) test case before deciding when to invade Taiwan.

Many people thought the Russian invasion of Ukraine would prompt China to take Taiwan -- and it might have, if the Russians had been successful.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine was supposed to be a walk in the park -- three days to take Kiev, a week of combat operations, everyone home in a month. But that didn't happen. The world is watching what a determined underdog can do defending their homes, especially with outside logistical support.

I believe Ukraine is causing China to revise their plans for Taiwan. They are certainly recognizing the importance of logistics and the need to actually USE an overwhelming force rather than relying on the opposition to fold just from knowing that the aggressor has overwhelming numbers.
