TOKYO — Okinawa marked the 77th anniversary Thursday of the end of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II, with the governor calling for a further reduction of the U.S. military presence there as local fears grow that the southern Japanese islands will become embroiled in regional military tension.

SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL Okinawa better think about wanting U.S. Forces reduced for several reasons. First, they need us there to protect that island. Second, one of the biggest sources of income for these people is our military paychecks. Without that a lot of people there will be very hungry. There will be a tremendous ripple effect if we have a massive scale back of troops or leave entirely.

I left there 48 years ago and the military was the life blood, many working on bases in 1 form or another. Plus the millions that went into entertainment industry. I do believe that force levels now are greatly reduced from my time as this was the end of the Vietnam war
