It is good to see that that American Talibanists did not prevail in their effort to destroy this piece of history and thereby obscure the rich and complicated history we have. We here in Tucson have a similar difference of opinion going on. There is a monument being crafted to honor the Buffalo Soldiers. Many of us want it placed in the Downtown Park where the statue of Pancho Villa presently stands. The city wants to put it in a round a bout In a light industrial park. (How about moving Pancho there?)
Many of the tribal members (T'Ohno, Apache primarily) don't want it built at all. The Buffalo Soldiers "pacified" those tribes.
