SHADES OF VIETNAM where "U.S. citizens are still in Afghanistan because the Taliban would not let them pass checkpoints. On top of the Americans who want out of the country, tens of thousands of Afghans who worked with the United States are trying to get out of the country." The human toll of this pull out is still raising and we may never know the exact count.
DON'T FORGET THE ARMS GIVEAWAY While the left can point to Trump for starting the pull out, his administration at least had a plan to get everyone out over time. Sleepy-creepy Joe Biden's administration was irresponsible in just pulling out and leaving tons of military grade equipment behind for the Taliban. At least when we left Vietnam, the Nixon-Ford administrations minimized what was "given" to the NVA & Vietcong.
WHY I CARE is because now we have a history of cutting and running because our politicians find it very inconvenient to hold up our end of any bargain. Back in 2001 we knew going in we were in for a long struggle. To beat the enemy we made promises to people we would be behind them and support them as we tried to build up their struggling country's efforts against Radical Islam. Now we leave them behind to be butchered and brutalized. That does not make me proud.
