It is very hard to disappear. People usually contact friends, family members etc. It is hard to do a name change and get ID etc. I have known one person who could live for an extended time off the land. He was a dedicated trapper and woods man. You never know when a cold case program comes up. One guy had developed a small business etc after killing his first wife and getting away. 6 years later a crime showed featured him. Yep he got caught. Another fellow established a new ID etc.. He got arrested for a minor crime. His cold case was on a crime show prisoners liked to watch. Yep he got ratted out..
