"There is no legitimate sporting or self-defense need for someone with proper marksmanship training to possess a 10-plus round magazine for their firearm of choice." - This is simply wrong and quite frankly, it is no one's business how many rounds my firearms can load. Furthermore, it is a subjective argument. Why 10? Why not five? Or one? Proper marksmanship training has nothing to do with it, as most people, who are faced with using their weapon for self-defense, have no idea how they will react. Nor will they know how many people they will face off against, whether that person is on drugs, using body armor, etc... I prefer to keep people guessing as to whether I have 10 rounds or more. Finally, it's important to note, gun control compromises will never end at some happy medium of 10 rounds. If this is agreed to, gun rights advocates will fight for more restrictions until guns are no longer legal in this country. Thanks, but I am happy where they stand (in my state anyway) now. I think the conversation needs to instead focus on what drives people to initiate gun violence and how they are circumventing the established laws vs restricting the right of legal gun owners. Imposing a 10 round limit to firearms isn't going to prevent gun violence and by the author's own words and perspective (which I don't share) even the bad guy could have the proper marksmanship training to overcome the transition to another magazine (assuming they haven't broken the law initially by acquiring a >10 round magazone).

Maj Robert Thornton - One of my Reserve Unit pistol team members was a NYCPD Officer. He was a damn good shot, and commented the average NYC cop couldn't hit the side of a barn if he fired from inside the barn.

CW3 Harvey K. that would also be me with a 1911. I can hit quite well with my G 30s in .45 ACP though. Weird.

I'm right there with you SGT (Join to see) . This guy argues that a 10 round magazine should be all you need. Can you even get a 10 round magazine for an AR-15 style rifle? Or an AK style rifle? I believe you are the one who schooled me (in a nice way) about the term "assault rifle" and I thank you for that. I've never had to use any firearm for actual defensive purposes and I pray to God I won't. But under stress, things like aiming and trigger control are difficult to maintain. I'd rather have two 15 round magazines than three 10 rounders. Reloading once instead of twice could very well be the difference between life and death. I'll take a high capacity magazine any day of the week.

Yes, you can get a 10 round mag for an AR. I have a bolt action Mossberg Flex MVP in 556. I have 10, 20 and 30 round mags. They are a AR mags.

Maj Robert Thornton - I did not know that. I remember the 20 round mags from Basic Training.
