The Pope has every right to relieve a senior cleric for not following his direction. The bishop clearly knew what he was doing and the possible/likely consequences. This is a disciplinary action. Considering that most RP members are military, we should be used to seeing this kind of action. I don't feel sorry at all for the bishop.

I'm not Catholic. Wife is. I really enjoy attending Mass. Our Padre shows up at our Friday afternoon dart drops occaisionally. A lively conversationalist. Looking fwd to discussing this with him.

Catholic Conservative and free thinker is true irony as Conservative Catholics tend to preach obedience to the Pope, to the Church, to the Book and to God. At least, that's the impression I got from staunch Catholics for 4 years at Univ. of Notre Dame.
