ZMDR LLC in Lone Jack, Missouri, was cited by the Department of Natural Resources for polluting a mile of nearby streams when septic tanks overflowed following a December rainstorm. A neighbor complained to the state that the creek near their house turned black and had a stench.
A beef processing facility 40 miles southeast of downtown Kansas City polluted at least a mile of nearby streams and allowed septic tanks of sewage and entrails to overflow, state regulators found this month.
The facility, the former site of a beef operation that neighbors felt threatened a nearby botanical garden, was referred on Feb. 9 to the Missouri Department of Natural Resource’s compliance department with six violations for polluting waterways and failing to perform inspections and maintain records.
