Berlin Airlift ‘Candy Bomber’ Col. Gail Halvorsen dies at 101

When the old commissary was remodeled into the USTRANSCOM Hq building in 1988 we worked with the Command Historian to name a conference room after Capt Halvorsen. Major updates during Desert Shield/Desert Storm were conducted in the Halvorsen. The conference room name moved to the new USTRANSCOM building and is there today as far as I know. Pictures of Capt Halvorsen with his candy bar air drop loads and German kids hang in the conference room.
