Two Marines Are Dead, 17 Injured in Truck Rollover in North Carolina. Driver Charged.

So the driver of the truck that had the accident was a 19 year old Marine. Sadly, another prime example of teenage years of 16 to 20 being responsible for motor accidents. I don't completely blame the teenagers, whether they be civilians or military, as the vehicle manufacturers play a part in the proven statistics that the teenage years contribute to most of the vehicle accidents in the US. Watch any tv commercial by any auto manufacturer & what to you see? Extolling safety? Good gas mileage? Easy to repair? No, none of these but how to "slide around corners"; go as fast as you can; the unnecessary"bells & whistles" of things really not needed just to drive upon the cost. It is not mentioned that usually the ad is filmed on a "closed" road so no other vehicles are involved; the actual driver is a professional, not a youngster with very little years experience under the belt. Then an average, everyday teenager gets behind the wheel & thinks of doing the same as in the ad. Also add to that is the disregard for laws & the "can't happen to me" syndrome. Result? Accidents that cause injuries or even worse, death. Since I am of the "old school", I believe that a person is responsible for choices & actions, which, sadly, is not being taught by many parents to their children.

@Lt Col Charlie Brown seems to me when I was in we had driver training courses that covered safe operations, PM, and documentation. That was before we ever got behind the wheel. My initial cours was about 2 weeks long with the final week in the field driving in every condition they coulr simulate including black out conditions.
