Despite Republican opposition, Michigan Gov Gretchen Whitmer implemented a policy from 2020 to 2021 that required nursing homes to accept positive Coronavirus patients who were discharged from hospitals. (Michigan was one of 5 states, all Democrat, to do so). That decision led to increased COVID-19 deaths in elderly facilities, which was underreported by 42% by Whitmer’s administration.
Currently, Gov Whitmer is in a dead heat with Republican opposition in her bid for re-election this year (2022).
