The Battle of Teutoburg Forest is the reason why we speak English today. Had the battle never happened (or had the Romans won it), nothing would've stopped Rome's advance across Germania. Rome would've conquered all the Germanic tribes (Angles & Saxons included), and there would be no Anglo-Saxon Invasion of Britain. We would be speaking a Latin based language.

Thank you my new friend CPT (Join to see) who shares an interest in military history and probably other history. Yes the 9AD battle/campaign during which Roman officer Arminius Deutsch name Hermann]of the Cherusci [adopted child of Publius Quinctilius Varus] devised a plan to ambush the three Roman legions Legio XVII, Legio XVIII, and Legio XIX led by Publius Quinctilius Varus [which were due to rotate out of Germanic region] led the annihilation of those legions. Some legionnaires were captured and executed after torture and others were turned to slaves of the Germanic tribes.
1. After the 17th century the royal families of Britain, the Germanic states, France, Russia, and other European states were intermingled.
2. The Hanoverian Royal Family were of German heritage ending with Queen Victoria. From 1901 to 1917, the name of the British Royal Family was Saxe-Coburg-Gotha of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, this Windsor family is still the royal family of UK.
3. The relationship of the British Royal family and German royal families caused pauses in judgement in the years leading up to WWI and WWII.

World War I is known by some as "A family affair" due to these royal families being related through blood and marriage. What the world has come to because of one conflicted family.
