It seems to me this whole Communism in America thing is getting blown way out of proportion for political gain... No one is going to kill Capitalism in America!

And yet, in various forms I keep hearing "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs." Isn't that a sweet way of saying tax the wealthy more [their fair share] and expand government run social welfare programs.

Letting 535 career politicians decide what my ability is and what someone else's need are and using the tax code as a to social engineering tool sounds like a good start to a "economy where decisions on what to produce, how to produce and for whom are taken by the government in a centrally managed bureaucracy."

I feel like a frog in the pot. A bunch of frogs think isn't this warm bath better than our old cold pond. Never mind the spices, and diced veggies they keep putting in the pot with us.

It seems you are really down on social welfare programs. To this I can only say, you might as well get used to them because the world is looking at mass unemployment in the future with robotics taking over nearly all manual labor in the next 50 years. What is the plan, just let them rot in the streets and for revolutions and shoot them down and sweep them away? Just curious...

PFC David Foster - We have progressed from hunter gatherers to where we are today. All along the way new fangled inventions like fire, spears, clubs, wheels, fishing nets, the steam engine etc. etc. have displaced workers. If your not familiar with the Luddites, you might find their concern familiar. The smart and adaptable see the new opportunities and advance society. Everyone else gets what is left over.

Those left behind are not truly left behind. Take a primitive hunter gatherer and he/she would think the slums of Victorian London or being a Russian serf at the beginning of the 20th Century was a great leap forward. A rising tide floats all boats, even the boats of the poor.

OK you asked, so I'll tell you. People constantly assume I'm some uncaring bastard. I'll match my Non-Government Organization (NGO) charitable contributions as a percent of gross income against anyone and let them include the portion of their taxes that go to social welfare spending. I'll also match my weekly commitment of time to community service.

But I decide what charities and families are worthy of the fruits of my labor. And it isn't millions for new drapes and carpet for the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (KCPA). I don't see a lot of welfare recipients in the audience at televised KCPA events. I do see a lot of federal elected officials, business elites and entertainment elites.

If the government social welfare spending programs were judged by the same watchdogs that report on NGO's involved in social welfare spending no informed person would willing send their money to government social welfare programs.

As far as social welfare spending, fine I'll willingly spend it. But my willingness comes with conditions
_Any criminal activity, you're out.
_Failure to re-educate and retrain at my (taxpayer) expense, you're out
_Out of wedlock pregnancy (undeniably leading contributor to poverty) you're out Your kids can get three meals a day at their school, no expense.
_Failure to report for any prescribed anti-psychotics and/or drug rehabilitation treatment, you're out
_Any fraudulent claims results in confiscation of all property (personal and real) and indentured servitude until every penny is repaid, with interest. Barred from government assistance for life.
The above is not an all inclusive list. And anyone who doesn't like my conditions should work like Hell to support themselves and their family, so that they are not subject to my conditions.

It is in my opinion NOT a lack of caring on my part. It is an over abundance of "enabling" on your part. I refuse to spend my time and money on people who care less about THEIR future than I do.
