A blow to disabled veterans
Another blow to our disabled vets! As of Jan. 1, 2022, if you are a disabled veteran in Texas, your DAV license plate is not sufficient to allow you to park in a handicapped space. As of that date, you must have a license plate with a wheelchair on it or a mirror hang tag. The total disabled veteran population in Texas is roughly 409,306,
http://veteransdata.info, which is less than 1.5% of the total state population of 29,145,505 (U.S. Census April 1, 2020).
Now we have to go get medical documentation to even be able to apply for the DAV tags with the “international” approved symbol to be able to park. Can somebody tell me why? Where are our leaders who supposedly look out for our disabled veterans? Most veterans are over the age of 60 when they begin to need access to disabled parking.
Lots is said about how our veterans are honored and valued. This bill is more evidence of where veterans fit into our general population. Thank you to whoever sponsored this bill and the equally uncaring individuals who allowed this legislation to be signed into law. Your disabled veteran support is overwhelming!
