Sgt (Join to see) Nice closeups and interesting content, lol. Guessing that what looks like drill holes in the rocks were from the rover drilling . . .
Wondering why the helicopter wasn't named "scout" since it is being used effectively for reconnaissance - and of course can make a good difference on the routing of the rover.

SGT Mary G. - Regarding Ingenuity, remember that this helicopter was a "proof of concept" craft, and upon landing on Mars and detached from its host rover, Perseverance, they still didn't know if it would fly successfully in the real Martian environment... As we now know, the small craft did awesomely well in flight and a determination was made by mission control to use Ingenuity as a "scout" so-to-speak... and it has been doing a fantastic job at that, minimizing the travel time from point to point by "Percy" as it eliminates the issues associated with large Martian rocks or debris... We can look for a much larger helicopter as time moves forward...

Sgt (Join to see) - Yes. And excellent proof, too. Guessing a new and larger helicopter prototype is already being constructed if not tested.

Fortunately it runs on battery power, which charges up via a solar panel on its frame... I believe that's why there is so much time between flights... When the Martian winter arrives, I think that will end its flying days...
