What's most surprising about this story is how unsurprising it is.
Treating their people like expendable, replaceable pieces of shit has been the Marine Corps way since 1775.
There's a reason why retention is so low, and the other branches are filled with former Marines.
The Marines don't care about their people. They care about how much they can get out of them. The Marines expect you to just be happy that you're a Marine. That's all they owe you. Anything resembling morale or taking care of you or your family is treated like an inconvenient burden, and you just get labeled a shitbag.
90% of the angry comments I'm about to get are going to be from former Marines who will rant about how wonderful the Marine Corps is like a cult member defending their prophet, but every single one of them spent every single second of their time in uniform hating it with a fiery intensity that puts the sun to shame.
Tradition. Despise it while you're in, fawn over it once it's in the past.

IMHO the greatest offence a Marine can commit, is to embarrass the Marine Corps. No matter if you can't be or weren't convicted under the UCMJ, the USMC WILL find a way to convict you of something and damage if not destroy your future!

SFC Michael Hasbun when I had issues in the Army and attempted suicide, I received an Article 15 for attempted ‘destruction of government property’ and my CO was a female!

SPC Nancy Greene no you didn't. The "we're government property" urban legend is just that. A myth.
The owning of human beings is called slavery. The US doesn't really allow that. We fought a war over it and everything. You might have heard of it. It wasn't very civil.

This tragedy begins at the recruiting office, by her own admission she has a family history of mental illness. Shame on the recruiter, shame on her, but a scenario that is repeated by recruiters/applicants in all branches. What is presented is one side of a story, one. Your opinion about the Corps is your own, and comes across as petty and poorly formed.

the military really needs to step up and get these soldiers the help they need, and not punish them when they seek that help on their own.

I think all of her COC should get GOMORs at the minimum for not taking care of the Marine. Taking care of subordinates is of the highest priority in the military. The general was consistent in the practice of f@cking up this case. It’s a shame the Marines have a black eye but they deserve it if her story is consistently true. F@ck her COC and the general.
