I was just going to say the exact same thing. I lost a good friend of mine to a rip tide or rip current. He was a sailor and a police officer and his heart final gave out as he desperately tried to swim to shore. Parallel with the shore is the way to live!

The North Carolina coast from the outer banks up along pleasure island top sail etc. along Wilmington all have horrible rip currents. And bull sharks. Spent a lot of summers in those waters and encountered a lot of both!

Not the best beaches to go to with smaller children who can’t swim well and have no fear of the water.
