This happens at a lot of beaches near large cities. You get storm sewer run off and fertilizer run off and you combine that with extremely high temperature water and the milder currents of the gulf and this is what you occasionally get.
I guess we could be like Jersey and have our beach covered in a flood of hypodermic needles?
Most Texans don’t go to the beach in Galveston anyways. They go further south to south padre island or Corpus Christi
