June is Pride Month. Cities and states across the country have spent the last few weeks celebrating LGBTQ history and culture.
But Pride didn’t begin as a celebration. It began as a protest.
The 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City kicked off in response to police raids on gay bars and nightclubs. Raids often resulted in police brutality and violence. A march was planned a year after the uprising the commemorate what it stood for, eventually morphing into the celebration of the LGBTQ community we know today.
Since then, Pride has looked a little different. And Pride’s relationship with the police looks different too. Since 1996, uniformed police officers have marched in the New York City Pride parade, and many of them belong to the LGBTQ community themselves. This year, they won’t be allowed to do so.

the NYPD doesn't want to admit that some of their officers are gay/trans/bi etc. those officers should be ashamed of working for an organization that won't let them be their true selves

SrA John Monette I Find it Surprising when those on the Right All of Sudden have a Problem with the LGBT Community Keeping Police at Arms Length. Obviously they are Completely Ignorant of the Stoenewall Riot and What Caused It.

I have to say that I couldn’t get the whole audio for some reason and so not sure of the reasoning behind not having uniformed officers marching in Pride Parades.
Was this decided by the parade organizers or the police departments?
I would be surprised if it was from the Pride organizers, unless it is in response to BLM and police brutality issues brought to the forefront in the last year. And if it came from the Department’s then that is another issue that seriously needs to be addressed.
