The school board doesn’t have a lot of choice in the matter. This is one of those “What were you thinking???” assignments.

An article of great interest sir, I know that a lot of people in this town are related to those that escaped the extermination camps of the Nazis, but why drag a kid through the mud when the teacher is of Jewish origin, and was more than likely showing the class that history must not repeat itself again LTC Tom Jones

My personal take on this is that this New Jersey School Board, rather than preforming a knee-jerk CYA response by placing professionals on admin leave, should have opted for a closed-door, "WTH were you thinking" conversation along with a de-fusing, open letter to parents explaining its "character development intent" and assuring them that this or similar projects will not be required of students in the future. That is NOT to say that this is not an important conversation to have but having it among 5th graders is a pretty big stretch. More mature minds need to realize that evil is not always palpable and that true evil can find its way into unsuspecting and unprepared minds. We need to know who are friends are but also who are enemies are with special attention to those times when, as Pogo said, they could be us as in this case.
