What a moron.
Third week of training and he takes off? Third week. Takes off with "a rifle." Hijacks a school bus - kicks everyone off the bus. Drives for several miles but can't drive a bus. Dumps the bus AND the rifle and runs around looking for clothes.
All done within an hour.
This kid is screwed. Multiple charges of kidnapping and other charges possible. And dishonorable
Edit: I did have this thought. I don't think this is why the kid ran but could be possible. I really hope it wasn't some kind of sexual abuse or something like that. I get there's SHARP or whatever but males are extremely unlikely to report sexual or any abuse. Again it was just a thought that popped in after I was sending the article to someone else. Ultimately I'm sure it was someone who just couldn't handle it and thought they made a bad choice (which is now followed by multiple bad choices).
I'm sure there's much easier ways to get chaptered out of basic than this though.

This kid, no matter the reasons, just fucked himself. a firearm was involved. The Army is not just going to chapter this kid, this will go to a court martial. How did he get the rifle? Where was the accountability of this firearm and Soldier? 3 weeks in, so thats about BRM time for a trainee, but the Drills should have eyes on, I see some Hats being removed as well.

SSG Robert Perrotto - I know he's screwed. I'm just saying if he truly just wanted out of the Army, easier ways to get out. Yes some people in his training company are getting lit up as well.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff - Company Commander, 1SG, and the drills working his platoon that day at a minimum. Would not surprise me in the least if they merge the company with the other Trainee brigades, and an official 15-6 investigation of the Company occurs.

Investigation to follow. Questions: how did he get the rifle? Did the training Cadre notify base authorities that a trainee had gone rogue? How did he ever get into the military? Whew, this is going to be bad

Its been awhile but isn't every soldier at basic issued a rifle and its with you everywhere you go during your training?
I do remember landNav training... that could give you about a 2 hour head start before anyone knew you were missing. I have never been to Relax'n Jackson so I'm not sure how far you would have to walk in order to get off post where he did but some sort of situation like that is what I'm going with.

SSG(P) (Join to see) we certainly did. But the investigation is going to be a bear no matter how the Army slices it.

SSG(P) (Join to see) sgt we were issued rifles but they were locked in the gun cage in our barracks at night. We marched everywhere with our rifle but we wasn't allowed to take off the BFA until we went to the range in white phase. I think an important question to ask is where was his battle buddy. At no point while in IET are you ever without a battle buddy.

How the heck did he get a weapon (I am assuming from the armory)????? Somebody needs to face some disciplinary action...

He is going to federal prison. He is getting a kidnapping charge per child. This troop will be in prison forever.

How did he get a weapon? He's a basic trainee. I never been to Jackson, but as a trainee at Benning, I got issued my M4 week 1. That seems pretty typical. He's the only at this point deserving of disciplinary action
