Megan Rapinoe has risen to prominence through the deliberate and intentional gender segregation of sports. Women's sports were created out of a realization that at elite levels, women simply cannot compete with men in the majority of sports, to include her sport, soccer. Elite females will crush average males in just about any sport. They will even dominate great athletes. But they cannot compete with male elites. (In most sports - there are exceptions, gymnastics comes to mind.)
That isn't sexist, it is demonstrated fact. Megan has benefited from acknowledging this fact and accommodating it. Now she is advocating that we ignore it and allow males to declare themselves female and retain that competitive advantage whilst competing against females. This is inherently unfair.
She discusses how sports helped her as a child and decries how these bans will prevent these trans girls from competing. She says "That’s why I believe that all kids, including transgender youth, should be able to participate in sports they love.” They can, Megan. Just not as girls.
Now... I will say... that if a trans girl has COMPLETED gender re-assignment - completed hormone therapy and had their plumbing updated and updated their medical and legal records - then at that point, the girl is a female and should compete as such. But anything short of that.... you are still a male and should compete as one.
