‘She’s welcome in our sauna any day’: Tucker Carlson launches bizarre attack on Deb Haaland

His bizarre effort is to shine a light on what he considers to be the foolishness of cultural heritage being used as "qualification" for a job. If it was supposed to be humor, it wasn't funny - only bitterly mean sarcasm. Obviously, he knows nothing about Deb Haaland's qualifications.
Deb Haaland knows her heritage and culture. She IS Norwegian and she IS Laguna, an enrolled member of the Pueblo. Her father is Norwegian, from MN, served in the Marines as an officer - Silver Star from Viet-Nam. Her mother, from Laguna Pueblo, served in the Navy. She grew up in a military family with all the accompanying changes in residence before the family settled in Albuquerque (where she graduated from high school), to be near family in Laguna.
Ethnicity of folks who immigrate from other countries is interesting and contributes to our nation. That is different than cultural heritage of the tribes of Indigenous folks who were already here when "the New World" was "discovered" - the cultures having since been battered, used, and abused, repeatedly - by the colonizing nations at first, before our nation's Independence.
Our Founders did honor native heritage to some extent, in theory. Recall the Iroquois Confederacy. " In 1988, the U.S. Senate paid tribute with a resolution that said, 'The confederation of the original 13 colonies into one republic was influenced by the political system developed by the Iroquois Confederacy, as were many of the democratic principles which were incorporated into the constitution itself.' "
Does Haaland's tribal culture contribute to her being qualified for the Interior job she was appointed to? Given the way Indigenous folks honor the land and environment, without traditionally abusing it through industrialization, I do think it adds a dimension. And she did earn her J.D. from UNM Law School, in Indian Law, after all. Seems to me she was a good choice to deal with all the legalities of the Department of the Interior, professionally, which includes a lot of violated treaties with tribes; while doing so without negative prejudice directed at tribes.

I'm part Indian (mix of several tribes roughly 5/8s and don't know who are 3/8s of my GGparents were - that doesn't MAKE me qualified for any job. My educations and skillsets are what make me qualified. Tucker has a point. That's what they would emphasize - not race.
