Was there ever actually a question of the SEC not playing! The SEC was ready to play on the Saturday after Sept 11 2001. I know this for a fact because I heard about the Auburn/LSU game cancellation when I checked into the Biloxi casino that I was going to commute to the game from. The SEC is gonna play football! Trust me!

They will play football, Cpl Robert Russell Payne. You’re absolutely correct! Here’s a story and a photo from that time period that I think you’ll appreciate.
This now somewhat famous photo was taken at Auburn on September 8, 2001, as War Eagle VI(Tiger) flew in front of the U.S. flag prior to the Auburn versus Ole Miss football game. My son and I were at the game and witnessed Tiger's flight firsthand. (This magnificent creature died on June 18, 2014, at age 34.)
Three days later, on September 11, we all know what happened.
The photograph was published with the words, “Ever to conquer, never to yield” in the lower right hand corner, and subsequently went viral. The words are the second line to “War Eagle”, Auburn’s fight song, and appropriately express the sentiments of our country, both then and now.

I was at that game as well. Jason Campbell started at QB. If I remember correctly we were up 27 -0 mid way through the third quarter and ended up having to hold Ole Miss at the very end to win the game by six. I didn't look that up so if I totally blew it my alzhiemers is to blame. WDE!

I nailed it! Exactly what I just typed. How can I remember details about a football game from 20 years ago that I attended but I can't remember details about a game I watched on TV last week. It is really odd how my mind works!
