Imam is the leader of a Muslim community and a Maulwi is a teacher in Madrassas. Islam has no priests as such, yet the religion has teachers and community leaders. A slight correction Ma'am. However, it is great to witness such acceptance and change throughout the uniformed services.

Islam doesn't have chaplains, like Christianity. Islam has Maulwi or teacher and Imam, or leader of the Muslim community. My apologies for this correction Ma'am; however, being precise and honest has been my habit from the onset. Thanks Colonel!

Chaplain is a generic term we use in the military for leaders of faith. I do not refer to the leaders in my faith as 'chaplain' but use the appropriate term for my faith. For someone that is not a follower of Islam, calling them chaplain would be appropriate.

Chaplain is a military position, not a faith specific theological title. Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jew, doesn't matter. Chaplain is a Chaplain.
