Okay, I'll play devil's advocate. The bear wasn't in the trash or against the house, so why go out there? Call the dog in and let B'rer Bear go on about his business. That's my take, anyway.

CWO3 (Join to see) - They said there was no blood, but I believe that is because it was still being wicked up by the fur. He let a wounded animal get away to live in pain or die badly. I don't know this guy, but I think it's highly likely I would not like him.

depends on what shot he was using, 4 or 6 shot would hurt but I don't think it would kill a bear 2 or buck would likely kill with a head shot

Sgt Jim Belanus - He was about 5 yards from the bear, rule of thumb is a pattern spreads about 1 inch per yard, so even a birdshot pattern would be very dense, 4-6 inches in diameter, and still moving over 1,000 feet per second, it would hit like a hammer and I cannot see how it would not wound. If the bear is unlucky, it lost its eyes.
