China says it will no longer recognise British passport for Hong Kong residents

China has said it will not recognise the British National Overseas (BNO) passport as a valid document for Hong Kong residents from Sunday, after the UK said it would allow it to be used as a route to British citizenship.
The announcement from Beijing is the latest in a series of moves – including a strict new national security law passed in June last year – to exercise tighter control over the former British colony, which was returned to China in 1997 on a promise that its autonomy would be maintained.
The British government had responded to the crackdown on Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement by offering up to three million holders of BNO passports a new path to full UK citizenship, within six years, if they leave the city to settle in Britain.
Britain said on Friday that it expected around 300,000 Hong Kongers to take up the offer, and that the changes would be in place from Sunday. But China has pushed back against the plan.

did anyone really expect differently from China? Many of the BNO holders are educated and experienced professionals, which China needs in order to fully exploit Hong Kong quickly and efficiently. Once Hong Kong is secure and under their fist, Taiwan is next.
China is the more dangerous threat in the world, you can point to Russian bullshit all you want, they have the EU as a neighbor. The closest serious threat to China's ambitions is the United States, Taiwan, S Korea, and then Japan will be squeezed by Chinese expansion of influence.
