He is right that some veterans have behaved badly, but I also don’t think that should stain most veterans.

Oh people do. I think it's overkill for alleged treatment of Vietnam vets.
I will do anything I can to ensure I don't wear my uniform off post because I have always had people randomly walk up and thank me for my service. It's always weird and awkward. Especially when I'm just trying to get something in a hurry. I have had people kind of hover near me obviously trying to think of what to say.
It's all over the place. And people will excuse a veteran for things they wouldn't someone else.

Yup. I have Retired Army plates on my POV. People will come up to me in a parking lot and thank me. It always startles me since I don't know them and wonder how they know but then I remember the plates. I always just say thanks for your support.
