I can't visualize the Marine Corps vision on doctrine. All I know is they want to be more agile and they will rely on the Navy for movement. They want longer accurate fires, and they will focus on sea to land capabilities.

GySgt Gary Cordeiro - Then the Army is better at writing descriptive narratives on doctrine. Marine doctrine: Deploy from sea to land. No tanks, little artillery, fewer helicopters. Long range fires will be first to fire to defeat the enemy (what weapons systems has not been alluded too). Long range fires mean the deep fight, but what about the close fight? The Marines don't want the capacity to help the Army in large ground campaigns so they pigeon hole their doctrine to sea to land operations. Forget the fact that if the Army can use help maybe because it is fighting a larger army, the Marines want to do their own thing because they want to feel unique.
So perhaps the Army is fighting a huge land campaign while Marines sit happily in ships, because they want to be different. That is what I am reading.

Nothing new. Post WWII we had to call up Reserves for Korea to field a MEB. CMC and Warfighting Labs are always looking at increasing tooth to tail ratio, and still survive threats to disband them. It was the FSPG post DS that minimized our share of the Peace Dividend. When 1/3 of 2.1 M ACDU went home after declaring Cold War is over. Not many friends in Congress these days. Like Sen. John Warner, Sen. Dole etc.

The only thing good about that move is that they may offer a early discharge to the ones with poor attitudes and get them our of our ranks. Who needs them in a combat situation anyways? On the recruiting side, the Marines will be even more picky of who gets selected to join our ranks leading to better quality recruits and ultimately, better Marines.
