In the entirety of our lives we are role models. First with friends, then with co-workers, then with subordinates, then with family, and so on and on. You don't know who is going to emulate your words or actions so learning to know yourself can only make you a more positive role model for someone else.

I expect that over your lifetime you have admired many who were worthy of emulation for a season and probably were susceptible to admiring some who turned out to be charlatans or worse. God has been incredibly patient with you and I to HIS credit since HE allowed each of us to live long enough to recognize our desperate need for HIM. Good morning Col Burroughs. With four children and seven grandchildren I have always been conscious of being a role model. That was also true in the Air Force as we were the first class of women air transportation officers. We knew everyone would be watching us and it was so important to be professional and successful on the flightline. And as good as that opportunity was, my time as a school counselor to ESOL students, many from countries where women had few if any opportunities for education or independence was just as important. I take that task very seriously even now during my volunteer time with the Red Cross. I am a role model and mentor for new facilitators; a very important position and a great honor.
