http://vetpac.org/The Veterans’ Alliance for Security and Democracy (“VETPAC”) is a political action committee established under the federal election laws to raise funds and, with those funds, make contributions to candidates for federal office and engage in other election-related activities, including endorsing and promoting the election of specific candidates for public office and addressing issues of national importance. VETPAC seeks to address issues of particular urgency for protecting the security and enhancing the democratic processes of the United States. As an alliance of veterans working with veterans, and of veterans working in alliance with the American people, VETPAC will endorse and support candidates for national office that support VETPAC’s principles of security and democracy.
VETPAC'S PROGRAM
VETPAC’s use of the funds it raises: In addition to contributing to specific candidates for public office, VETPAC will use its resources to facilitate veteran-sponsored voter registration and political mobilization efforts in national elections and to fund veteran initiatives designed to publicly engage the public during the 2006 election campaign on issues of concern to all Americans.
VETPAC’s veteran, military and families outreach and political mobilization program: There are over 27 million veterans in the United States. There are currently over 2.4 million uniformed military, including Active Duty, The Reserves, and National Guard. VETPAC is convinced that a mobilized veteran and military vote, including their families, will prove decisive to the favorable outcome of elections in critical “battleground” states and of key congressional races. In 2006, these voters could also prove instrumental in making a number of other states competitive. VETPAC will facilitate political mobilization efforts of veterans, members of the military, and their families in these various states and congressional races through educational and voter registration initiatives.
VETPAC’s public education “Veterans’ Voice” program: In light of the urgent and critical issues now confronting our Nation, those who have served in the Armed Forces have a special obligation to make their voices heard; at times by speaking to the American public singularly as veterans, at other times by making their voices heard in conjunction with the efforts of similarly concerned organizations and like-minded citizens. VETPAC will work to assure that the veterans’ voice is heard throughout the 2006 election campaign, at the national, state and local levels through:
use of VETPAC’s website;
the dissemination of educational materials;
press releases, op-ed pieces, and the placement of live and print advertisements;
individual public speaking and talk show engagements;
several pro-active, national and state-level veterans speakers’ bureaus;
events designed to communicate VETPAC’s concerns to the American public.
VETPAC’s voter population focus: VETPAC’s program focuses on several distinct, yet overlapping, voter populations – (1) veterans; (2) uniformed military, including active duty, guard and reserves; (3) the families of veterans and uniformed military; and (4) key segments of the general public whose voting participation in the presidential election and in key congressional races could prove decisive.
VETPAC’s geographical focus: In order to maximize its impact, VETPAC will target its resources on those states that are presidential “battleground” states or have important Congressional races.
