I don't think $4 for 8' of 2" duct tape is worth it, it's a great idea though. You can probably find small rolls in the office trash from cash registers and adding machines.

I learned very quickly in the Army, duct tape is mission essential!
This carried over into civilian life as well...still use duct tape aka 1000 mike an hour tape to this day!
(actually keep a roll in my car for emergencies)

I just carry a whole role that cost me about the same. Use it to patch up the tent from both sides to make secure of any holes. Can be used to keep tent poles from breaking further. Or used to cover up cv boots on all tactical vehicles.
