Prior military service did some target shooting, more 'plinking' than much else. Aside from BCT (M16), AIT .45, subsequent annual certifications, more training with M16A1 & M9 Beretta with the same until military retirement; found owning firearms while on active duty not truly worth all the aggravation. Really! Settling into civilian mode again, at first just didn't have the time for 'any' form of hobby, then considering the accompanying cost, doubted any need, my owning firearms. Then some years back...
Met one of those people (much younger than myself) rarely found. A good/godly young man with wife, young son and aspirations to go Bible Seminary in preparation becoming a minister for God. Only bit over a year later I stood with his grieving widow & small family, along with extended family & friends, all of us asking, 'why'; as he was lowered low into his grave. Critically wounded by a 13 yr old wannabe thug, then executed at point blank by a 16 year old gang member; just for stopping to buy gas between work and home, at their chosen place to rob. Standing over his grave as others drifted away, I had a talk with God first time, in a long time. On our way home, I told my wife about the one sided conversation and a commitment, she agreed to. Now on my second State License to Carry, in a state where Open Carry is legal. Never go anywhere without it, nor one of multiple semi-automatic hand guns. Also own a couple of wheel guns (revolvers), three semi-automatic rifles and...a shotgun.
I'm no fan of Rittenhouse, for same reason not supporting anyone rioting/looting...anywhere, don't give a damn about their media claims of why they're doing so. They're criminal acts. I heard about that couple in Louisville, about their brandishing 2 weapons toward threatening protesters, too. Both, their...mistakes. To date have only had one (1) occasion produce my firearm (except frequented local shooting range). All had to do. The pair of would-be car thieves with knife hurried, for parts unknown.
NEVER use firearms except self-defense, (your or another's live endangered), prepare live with result.
