I really try to be fair and neutral when I post articles. But as a police officer this one gets under my skin. Another rush to judgement.
For those that don't know, the victim identified as Lee Keltner, a 49 year-old old Navy veteran, was shot and killed by a security officer hired by a TV station to protect its employees. I can tell you based on what I have seen on many websites and numerous TV stations that the shooting was justified. But yet I read veterans coming to the defense of the alleged victim because he's a veteran. What is not being stated are the FACTS.
Keltner originally assaulted Matthew Dolloff and then used a can of bear spray on him. As any police officer knows and as a veteran surely should know, if you are immobilized by the effects of bear spray your weapon may be taken from you and used to murder you. Deadly force is authorized on what is called the Use of Force Continuum. Standing there exchanging blows is one thing. But being struck in the face and then bear sprayed is entirely another.
People need to stop making snap judgments based on what the MSM puts out. All of these articles lack context. Dollof has been charged with first-degree murder and the charged does not fit the alleged crime. First-degree murder requires premeditation and malice. One would be hard-pressed to say that Dolloff went to work that day with the intention of killing someone or that after being assaulted and pepper sprayed he had malice when he used his sidearm to immobilize his attacker.
It is asserted that the victim was a pro police veteran that was at the dueling protest to defend the police with the implication that that makes him a decent guy and that we should ignore the fact that he assaulted the security officer and then used a can of bear spray on him. When does common sense enter into this?

I agree that it's sad. Someone is missing their loved one tonight. But you know my brother, we know that actions have consequences. You don't show up at a protest that is supposed to be nonviolent with bear spray. You don't assault a security officer and then hit him with a bear spray and not expect there to be consequences. He just didn't expect the security officer to be armed. We've got these wussy Democrat Mayors and governors that won't call out the National Guard. I put this on the politicians. With this particular incident I put it on the alleged victim. I've worn a sidearm for a long time and been in scuffles before where I deliberately had to inflict serious injury short of deadly force to retain my weapon. One dumb SOB tried to pull my weapon out of the holster and ended up with a broken wrist. There's an old expression. "It's better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6." All I ask is that there at least be a proper investigation before this guy is hung out to dry Mike Rittenhouse that video evidence tends to show justifiable homicide. Both are a rush to judgment fostered by the MSM.
