I was a Sp/4, Sp/5, SSG, Sp/6, SSG, SFC, MSG.
As a "hard" stripe, I was in charge of troops. As a Specialist, I just had a job to do, no troops. Worked with a Sp/7 in Vietnam. He had never been in charge of anyone, and loved it that way.
