I finished up my IT shift about 30 or so minutes ago and Now for some relaxing music posts... For my first Music Interlude for today, I selected a Mark Knopfler performance titled Brothers In Arms... This was a live performance from the Meistersaal, Berlin on the 10th September 2007 filmed and broadcast by German TV station, RBB. In a pre-tour showcase, Mark plays a few teasers from his soon to be released 5th studio album, “Kill To Get Crimson“ as well as other hits taken from previous albums.
One Vietnam Veteran wrote the following:
"I’m a Vietnam Vet. When I heard this the first time I cried the tears of a baby. Only a combat vet can understand how much this song is true in every word. Don’t think for one second that I believe any of you don’t feel the words, I know you do. I’m talking of a visceral, deep in the bones, feeling. One that goes far beyond just feeling the song. Now it’s so many years since this was released and still I cry when I hear it. Thank you Mark for writing this and for giving such a heartfelt performance each and every time. I love your work."
NOTE: "This song was inspired by the Falklands War between Argentina and the UK in 1982. Mark Knopfler wrote the song when the war was still raging.", but could be applied to any war, anywhere in the world... A new version of the track was released in 2007, to mark the 25th anniversary of the war conflict. All proceeds were dedicated to help veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder."
LYRICS:
"Brothers In Arms"
These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms
Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've witnessed your suffering
As the battle raged high
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms
There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms
Writer(s): Knopfler Mark
I hope you all enjoyed it!
