I ask, what is their mission? What are their tactics. What is their ROE. What is the extent of their snatch and grab of people without probable cause? Should DHS be even involved in these situations?

My gravest concern is, are these actions on the right side of the constitution?

MAJ Ken Landgren - Article 4, section 4.2 - Protection from invasion and Domestic Violence.
[...] and [the United States] shall protect each of them [the States] against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

Section Four requires the United States to protect each state from invasion, and, upon the application of the state legislature (or executive, if the legislature cannot be convened), from domestic violence. This provision was invoked by Woodrow Wilson during the 1914 Colorado coal strike.

Further, the Insurrection act of 1807, gives further leeway to the President to order the deployment of the Military in times of insurrection, and has been amended numerous times to meet political challenges, Notably Lincoln expanded the law, in order to clear the path legally, to wage the civil war.

Further, What is happening in Portland meets the definition of insurrection - Insurrection
A rising or rebellion of citizens against their government, usually manifested by acts of violence.

SSG Robert Perrotto - Do they have a right to detain anyone they want? If they are to protect federal buildings and protect people, why are they beating people in offensive maneuvers? Should they beat peaceful protesters? Do they have a right to go to any city without coordination with the mayor and local police? There are also articles stating Trump wants to target cities run by democratic mayors. Like I said the dust has not settled.

MAJ Ken Landgren - all I will say is this, we are not seeing the entire story, which I agree with you on this. We are seeing what is quite possibly a crafted narrative, which is why I do not believe what the media is portraying, How many times has the media been caught not showing the entire story, edited videos, carefully selected photo's, blatant biases, deliberate word choices to manipulate public perception, and this goes for all media. Both legacy and independent news sources, right leaning or left leaning. I know two things for truth, One, there is a mob that has dictated terms, through violence and fear tactics, in Portland for 3 years, and two, after 3 years of said mob dictating terms with near impunity, the federal government has stepped in. Your question was is it constitutional, I provided the relevant article in the constitution and a law that was passed, along with the definition of insurrection, in which the federal executive branch can legally do what he is doing in Portland.

SSG Robert Perrotto - I will take what you say with a grain of salt. There are too many unanswered questions. It is a fast moving tsunami right now.

If they'd cleaned up their own masses, the feds wouldn't have to. This isn't about uniforms, that's just a distraction.

MSG Tom Earley is be very interested in seeing that patch. I have a hunch that’s it’s about 2 inches square and black lettering on black fabric. I don’t doubt that they were issued these uniforms. I’m objecting to the fact that they were issued these particular uniforms.

MSG Tom Earley I get that, I do. I’m not holding the individual officers responsible for what they were issued. I’m saying we need to take a long look at who issued it and why. I mean...look at it from a *purely* selfish standpoint: these guys attract a lot more negative attention than the military typically does. I don’t want to be lumped in with them, or worse targeted because some whack job with an axe to grind thinks I’m one of them.

MSG Tom Earley we had NG troops deployed to almost every major metro in the country when this all started and other than one shooting where Guardsmen were present but no evidence they fired it all went off without a single high profile incident that I. Can recall.

Most federal agents out in the field on operations use a military type looking uniform, better then using a white shirt, tie, slacks, wing tipped shoes, and aviator sunglasses. . Lol

MAJ Byron Oyler - As a COP we used black, it was a Special Enforcement Amphibious Section (SEAS) unit.
