Some good information. SIG has a lot of good videos, and many of them deal with the nuts and bolts of guns and shooting. There are always tradeoffs when a person buys a gun, because a gun that is easy to shoot may not be easy to carry, and a gun that is easy to carry may not be easy to shoot. That is those of us who have been shooting and carrying a while have several guns, because it has taken a while to figure out what works best for our various carry situations.

SGT Steve McFarland - If I was newer to the Army, I would absolutely get a P320 or M18?? The carry pistols in my family are all XDs because ten years ago I bought my first and the magazines work in all of them as well as the holsters. Not crazy about a firearm made in Croatia but it is what it is and I did not know this up front. My G20 smoothly fires 10mm but I am not crazy with the safety or lack there of.

MAJ Byron Oyler Yes, the Army has adopted the M17, which is a full-size P320, and the other branches have adopted either the M17 or the M18, which is the compact version of the P320. My first polymer gun was a Ruger SR9, which I bought in June 2017 and carried after I got my CCW in February 2018 until I bought my P320.
I don't know much about the XD's, and I have only shot one, one time, that someone at the range had. It seemed to shoot pretty good. It is always nice when the mags you have work with several different guns.

CW5 Edward "Tate" Jones Jr. Great choices! I carry a P365 for warm-weather and casual carry, and a P320 for Sunday and dress-up carry. I have a P226 and a P229 that I will be working into the rotation.
